Event Photography: Advocacy | Hill visits

Inspirational is really the word that best describes this photographic project. The Pancreatic Cancer Network asked me to photograph their 3-day advocacy conference and visit to Capitol Hill this year. These were long but very rewarding days. This incredible organization is the gold standard when it comes to engaging their supporters and being effective when they lobby Capitol Hill. To this end, they wanted photographs that resonated the passion, the inspiration and commitment of the 500+ people attending the conference. These are the supporters and survivors who came to Washington to share their experiences, communicate a clear message and advocate for essential changes. These men and women were incredibly inspiring (not often I’m moved to tears) but the organization itself is also outstanding. Watching them engage with Senators and Congressmen made for powerful images. The conference involved two days of training and education plus a day on the Hill. Year after year attendees return, which is key to developing a forceful lobbying Capitol Hill advocacy program. It was an emotional and hectic event to photograph but I was truly honored to be part of their effort.
